NaPoWriMo 2024: Day 9

Prompt: write your own ode celebrating an everyday object.

Ode to The Electric Kettle

Years
I lived
alone, unkept
without thy warm embrace
and I knew not
the absence
of the sweet
simple
luxury
to have thy steaming breath
pour out
so readily
with but a few moments
enamored wait.

Ye emerged
into my life
in a period
of love
and joy.
First, for the sake
of camping,
of cocoa,
then,
with discovery,
small portions
of broth.

My roux
no longer breaking,
curse of forgotten
bullion
undissolved.
My tea
no longer wasting
curse of lazy
winter morn.

Thy silver form
sleek
smooth,
thy belly
full
and round
and beautiful.
Ready to accept
into its bosom
the purest
hydrating
water,
fresh from the stream
of the freezer door.

I yield to thee,
O, kettle
in thine infinite
wisdom of
thermodynamics.
In awe
I stand
of thy maker.
May thy life
be long
and
ever upheld
by the
capable
yet capricious
kitchen circuit.
