NaPoWriMo 2024: Day 29

Prompt: a poem whose title comes from a Taylor Swift song

Elegy

It’s been so long now
I was so young
Much more a child than young woman then

Too many years have passed without you
I see pictures
I hear stories
But my own memories falter
Replayed in sepia tones
And I wonder if they are even mine anymore

I wonder who you’d be today
I wonder who I would be
Would we have the same laugh?
The same favorite candy?

Would I take you for granted?
Naive, unaware
That our time together might not last
Forever
