NaPoWriMo 2024: Day 13

Prompt: Create a “word bank” of ten pairs of rhyming words and use as the seeds for your poem.

Raindrops splatter across the window pane
As thunder shatters the evening air
A wonder to behold
The brilliant flash

A mother robin cowers to protect the nest
She herself spent hours building there
On the shelf of the birdbath
Where she used to splash

The gardener hears no chirp on this day
But aromas to savor usurp his attention
Diplomas of flavor
Will soon grace his plate

Tentative claw creeps toward scraps unattended
A lilted guffaw diffuses the tension
Old, quilted gloves
Stroke the feline playmate
