the length is very distinct
the color true and natural
the fit of the cap
always the same
in 2010
we bid farewell to high school
it was still growing out
from a senior year pixie
a year of self-discovery
and settling into
who I might become
in 2011
we accepted a first collegiate diploma
blonde, straight and simple
a spell away from home
only to soon return
but looking toward the future
who I might become
in 2015
we ventured into “adulthood”
with a recent trim
after two summers overseas
and a tour of the East
ready to write a new chapter
who I might become
it’s 2021
we await our fourth degree
leaving behind remnant curls
settling into summer
ready to relax
before embracing a new adventure
who I might become
