Prompt: a self-portrait poem in which you make a specific action a metaphor for your life.
I watch the world
through a north-facing window
In the mornings
daylight wins over shadow
I see sunbeams
Burn away residue frost
Another day beginning
Mail is delivered
Dog walkers pass by
Neighborhood driveways
Slowly empty and fill
Afternoon sunbeams
Dance onto my wall
Evening makes its appearance
In the nighttime hours
the world is still
I see only the ghost
of my own reflection
One more day
Aware yet unharmed
Sheltered
