NaPoWriMo: Day 17

Prompt: a poem that featuresĀ forgotten technology.

To be so familiar as the disc that played
on repeat
through the earphones that plugged
into my walkman
while I slept in the car
as my parents drove
across the state
to Michigan
to visit
family

To be so desired as the song I awaited
patiently
near the radio with my cassette tape
ready to record
as soon as I heard
the opening notes
so I could listen
later on
whenever I
wanted

To be so beloved as the texts exchanged
secretly
from the flip phone hidden in my locker
in the passing break
between classes
that told the story
of my every day
and all my
undisclosed
passions
