Minute Moment of Great Significance

I had the opportunity to visit the Mt. Timpanogos Temple this evening with my sister, brother-in-law, and two other friends, to do baptisms for the dead. It’s a temple I’d never been to, so it was exciting and strange at the same time. I’d like to share just a small experience which I had there that reaffirmed my testimony of the Gospel.

As we were sitting waiting by the baptismal font with several other youth and families who were performing ordinances, I happened to be looking around, just thinking and kind of in a daze. I noticed one of the girls sitting a few seats away from me on the bench. When our eyes met, she smiled at me. Before it even registered, I smiled back at her, and then the moment was over. I thought to myself how insignificant that gesture may have seemed to her, but to me, a complete stranger, it was such a pure act of kindness, it really took me by surprise. I thought to myself of the scripture in Galatians 5:22

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith

It is clear to me that this young woman had the Spirit with her. Though I have no idea who she was or what her story is, I am grateful to have encountered her, even for such a small amount of time. I can’t even explain why, but her example really inspired me. I want to be someone who is able to bless others with the gifts that the Spirit brings. I want to be able to touch the lives of others, whether I know them or not, and uplift them in any way I can, even if all I can do is bring them a smile.
