Pondering

I don’t think we take the time to really ponder things anymore.

It’s so easy to get caught up in all the excitement of everyday life, especially being in college, and I’ve found that I too often forget to take time to slow down and think about things the way that I should.

I’ve had some things on my mind lately. A culmination of events has led to me sitting on my living room floor at midnight, writing these words. I’ve been blessed with some good friends who make the effort to get me to talk about things, even when I don’t necessarily want to. That happened today, and it was exactly what I needed. I’ve found that sometimes, compelling myself to say my thoughts out loud are the best way to sort through them. And trying to explain my feelings to another person help me to acknowledge, process, and deal with them.

A lot of my day has been dedicated to pondering, the details of which are unimportant. I’m content just to say that taking the time to sit in silence (or with some Chase Coy in the background, in my case) and think through all the details and possible scenarios of an outcome will ultimately, eventually, lead to clarity. If you invest the time and energy required, some sort of enlightenment will come to you. In my case, I rediscovered a realization that I had long ago which I have tried to apply (leading to a great deal of joy in my life), but had let slip away as I got caught up in the chaos of being “young and carefree.” The answer you receive may not be what you were seeking, and it may not be the easiest thing, but it will be the best thing for you.

Next time you are feeling lost or confused, or just seeking something more in your life, take the time to ponder. You won’t regret it.
