NaPoWriMo 2022: Day 1

Prompt: a poem based on or responding to a line from Emily Dickinson.

I’ve read

the second half of joy

is shorter than the first.

but the long tails of contentment

house a secret,

quiet,

calm.

a peace

dull and reluctant

to rear it’s wily head.

still it stands, watchful, ready

should the breezes of nostalgia

ignite its soul again.
